Microsoft just released a windows update that will fix many dangerous and actively abused exploits and vulnerabilities in Windows. These patches released by Microsoft are designed to address 68 vulnerabilities, many of which are considered critical. Here’s what you need to know about the update on your device and how to stay up-to-date!
The software company regularly releases updates for Windows 11 and 10. Recently, Microsoft recently released a new round of updates which should fix several pressing issues that could have put your Laptop or computer device at risk! Microsoft released a total of 68 flaws fixed during this month’s Patch Tuesday, and 11 are critical. The potential attacker could remotely execute malicious code or elevate privileges within your system if they were granted access to it by one of these vulnerabilities.
If we broke down into different categories then Microsoft’s latest update contains fixes for the following issue:
- 27 – Related to the Elevation of Privilege Vulnerabilities
- 16 – Allow Remote Code Execution
- 11 – Disclose Information
- 06 – Denial of Service Vulnerabilities
- 04 – Let the Attacker Bypass Security Features
- 03 – Related to Spoofing
Microsoft issued six fixes for vulnerabilities known as ‘zero-day’ that were being actively exploited and are also known to the public. The company reported the existence of these bugs without an official patch available yet which makes them “zero days” in their classification according to Microsoft’s definition.
While there would be no way for the attacker to execute this exploit without access from a victim accessing a specific server. But once they did visit a malicious server or website, the hacker would be automatically granted remote code execution privileges! Vulnerabilities in the software made it possible for hackers to bypass Mark of Web (MOTW) defences, which resulted in a lack of availability of security features including Protected View in Microsoft Office.
One of the most serious vulnerabilities in Microsoft Windows could allow an attacker to take control of your computer.
