Samsung is making some changes to its list of suppliers for the photography systems on the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. The former is a sleek and slim flipper that can easily fit in your pocket, giving you a 6.7-inch screen when opened up while the latter has a 6.2-inch cover screen which becomes the 7.6-inch tablet-sized display when opened up like a book!

According to The Elec’s report Partron which supplies camera modules for Samsung’s current Galaxy Z Fold 4 will not be providing them with camera models for the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5. After Samsung’s own Electro-Mechanics division, Partron is the 2nd biggest supplier of camera modules for the back of the Galaxy Z Fold 4.

Galaxy Z Fold 5 is to have camera modules manufactured by three South Korean firms, Cammsys; Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Mcnex. The three companies are the primary suppliers with Sunny Optical as a secondary supplier. Samsung Electro-Mechanics Cammsys and Mcnex are all expected to provide components for this phone’s front-facing camera as well.

According to reports, Samsung has not provided any reason as to why they removed Partron from their list of suppliers for the next-generation Galaxy S23 flagship line. However, Partron has been considered only one minor camera model provider. There is a rumour that Sunny Optical is the camera models supplier for the Galaxy S23 Ultra. It provides a 10MP periscope camera and 12MP ultra-wide camera models.

The Galaxy S23 series camera models include a variety of suppliers including Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Namuga, Mcnex and Powerlogics. The anonymous sources told The Elec that Partron will be the secondary or tertiary supplier based on the camera module.

It’s not clear why Partron won’t be supplying parts for the 2023 foldable handsets, but it seems that Samsung wants as many of its own camera modules in these new phones.

The firm is still a major supplier of Samsung for the mid-range Galaxy A and Galaxy M handsets. The Galaxy Z handsets have contributed to only 5% of Samsung’s smartphone shipments, which is a much smaller amount than the lower-priced handset models.

Samsung will be releasing its new Galaxy S23 series in January or February 2023. However, the next foldable phones; the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and Galaxy Z Fold 5 may come out later in August 2023.
