Chief Executive of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg has promised dislike button to Facebook users in a Q/A session held at Facebook Headquarters. It is going to be a tool to express the emotion other than ‘like’ such as empathy. Though, it is not sure that how will it look like, very unlikely to be a thumbs down (Youtube style).
“Probably hundreds of people have asked about this, and today is a special day because today is the day where I actually get to say we are working on it and are very close to shipping a test of it,” Zuckerberg said.
Zuckerberg further added, “It took us a while to get here because we don’t want to turn Face book into a forum where people are voting up or down on people’s posts. That doesn’t seem like the kind of community that we want to create.”
Facebook introduced ‘Like’ button in 2009, since then campaigns to have a dislike button began. Many argued that liking bad news (such as death news) is totally wrong. With increasing amount of content shared on Facebook, need for dislike button increased. How can one like article about a murder?
But everyone is not happy with this announcement. Some believe that new ‘dislike’ button will have a negative impact on Facebook users.
A #dislikebutton for @facebook is a terrible idea! We have enough negativity online! This encourage bulling. A good way to ruin a brand!

Cyberbullying is already a massive problem and this is only going to contribute to it. #dislikebutton — Christel Dee (@CaptainChristel) September 16, 2015
While we don’t know much about the new feature, we do know that it is not the direction Facebook is heading in.
