FAW-Volkswagen Automotive Co. Ltd. – a joint venture between Chinese automaker FAW Group and Germany’s Volkswagen Group, will recall more than 270,000 cars in China due to an airbag defect starting Wednesday.
At the start of this month a spokesman for VW said the problem occurred when a driver was involved in a rear-end collision that was so severe that it damaged the axle. In each case the company investigated, the torsion crank broke when the driver continued driving with the car instead of taking the car in for repair.
AQSIQ assure that the recall is warranted because of a software problem affecting the airbag’s control panel, which could lead to the front airbag deploying improperly.
FAW-Volkswagen will update the software to fix the safety hazards for recalled cars for free.
